The Calvary United Methodist Women (UMW) Meeting of January 10, 2012, was called to order by President Esther Colebank. The purpose was recited by eight members and two visitors. Devotions were lead by Lucille Bender from the UM devotional based on II Timothy 3:16-17.
Lucille Bender then read several letters of correspondence thanking us for the fruit baskets that we gave for Christmas.
The secretary was then called upon for the minutes from the last meeting. Since we had no business meeting in December, there were no minutes recorded.
The Treasurer’s Report was then presented by Lucille Bender and approved by her. Mavis Hoffman seconded the motion; all approved.
Discussion regarding distribution of Fall Bazaar proceeds followed. The following was agreed upon:
· Open Door Community Center - $300
· ND Teen Challenge - $200
· ND Veterans’ Cemetery - $300 (donation will be made later in honor of Fathers’ Day)
· UMW of flood-damaged church - $500
All were in favor of all donations. We will continue distribution of funds at our meeting in February.
It was noted that the kitchen is in need of a sturdy step stool. Vi Almer made a motion that Esther Colebank and Lucille Bender purchase a new step stool. Motion was seconded by Vi Sebastian. All were in favor.
Valentine cards to be sent to the ND Veterans’ Home in Lisbon were signed and addressed by all present. Thank you cards were also sent to those that delivered cheer baskets to the shut-ins and elderly. This was done in place of a program at this meeting.
Gift cards are to be given to Ken and Carol Hogue and to Donna, the church secretary, as a ‘thank you’ from UMW for all they have done for us this past year.
Next month’s program leader is Esther Colebank; hostess is Vi Almer.
